Pagan Dharma
Published in the respected esoteric journal Gnosis, this essay opens Sam's long-running project of holding Pagan polytheism and Buddhadharma together rather than treating them as a contradiction to resolve.
He argues the two are not competitors for the same metaphysical territory: Buddhist practice addresses the nature of mind and suffering, while Pagan ritual addresses relationship — with gods, land, and community — and a serious practitioner can develop rigorously in both directions at once.
The essay marks the start of a synthesis Sam continued to develop for years afterward, including in "Entering the Buddhadharma," written for the Open Source Order of the Golden Dawn's own course of study.
