LIBER XXV: The Star Ruby (Webster's hack)
Sam's reworking of Crowley's Star Ruby banishing ritual.
Crowley's Liber XXV, the Star Ruby, presented with Sam's own working modifications marked out — the page is labelled a hack rather than a new rite, and every alteration is flagged so a practitioner can see exactly where Sam has departed from the received text.
The base ritual is the Thelemic banishing: the opening breath and the cry that drives off evil spirits, the Gnostic Cross touched to forehead, phallus, right and left shoulder with its Greek acclamations, then the four quarters — East, North, West, South — each taking a pentagram flung from the forehead and the name of a Thelemic godform, closing widdershins at the centre with the Paian to Pan, and finally the Tau-form invocation of the four Chaldean orders around the operator.
Sam's changes are practical ones. He distributes the signs of N.O.X. across the quarter calls instead of massing them at the centre, gives an expanded Paian to be spoken while holding the Star posture, and does the closing couplet about the five-pointed star and the six-pointed star in English rather than Greek. The page is presented as a record of how he actually works the rite, not as a correction of Crowley.
