Origins Matter
On why the origins of a tradition matter to its present practice.
An April 2014 post that opens with the question underneath a great deal of Golden Dawn scholarship: where did the Order actually come from? The Cypher Manuscripts are known, and it is established that the Founders worked them up in stages into the rituals now in use — but Sam's point is that this cannot be the whole story, and that there has to be more of a backstory.
The post itself is a pointer rather than an argument, summarising research Sam had written up in brief for the Open Source Order of the Golden Dawn. Filed under both Blog and Golden Dawn and tagged for history, it sits alongside On Lineage as part of his running case that the tradition's genealogy is a matter of evidence rather than assertion.
